Davis 3rd Graders at Grinnell Historical Museum
5/22/2010
Davis School 3rd graders recently visited the Grinnell Historical Museum with a plethora of fun activities and historical presentations on Grinnell in the past. Groups of 8 or 9 children visited approximately 9 different stations for 17 minutes representing games of the past, exercise activities (such as rope skipping or jumping), story telling, the medical room, toy room, the parlor with a crank victrola and the carriage house where Grinnell Historical Museum President, Howard McDonough told the children about some of the inventions of the past, transportation of the past and how farming in the rural areas was accomplished. Music maker of special interest to the Davis 3rd graders was Frank Heath, who demonstrated how he was able to make tunes with a hand saw and violin bow.
The Davis School 3rd graders were prepped with a sheet of questions about what they might see on the visit and then were to identify at what part of the museum they found the item.
