Central Iowa Christian School Raises Pennies for PALS
On May 4, the Poweshiek Animal League Shelter (PALS) hosted a group of students from the Central Iowa Christian School. The students spent two hours at the shelter learning about animals, how the shelter operates, and they even had time to play with the cats and dogs.
During the visit, the Central Iowa Christian School students decided to launch a “Pennies for PALS” campaign. After a month of fundraising, the students presented PALS with nearly $130.
“The children were learning about animals, and it made perfect sense for them to come visit the animal shelter,” says Wendy Kadner, PALS president. “It is so important to educate children on the proper care of an animal, the importance of spaying and neutering, and show them how PALS works. It is critical to teach them at a young age how their volunteerism and support can save animals, and I’m glad we have been able to work with the local schools to do just that. Some students who have visited PALS have started volunteering with their parents, and many others have donated toys and treats to the animals.” Kadner adds, “It was amazing that after their short visit, the students wanted to raise money immediately to help the animals. We are so grateful for their support!”
PALS is a non-profit, 100 percent volunteer animal shelter, located just south of Grinnell at 4167 20th Street.
